Beautiful Editorial from Marie Claire May 2011

I just think everything about these pictures is gorgeous. Their braids, the minimal makeup, the cream with tan leather. This editorial is the work of Simon Burstall for the May 2011 issue of Marie Claire US. The models are twins, named Ieva and Aida Aniulyte. I got the images from fashiongonerogue.com.

Another shoot on M's fire escape!

Our new favorite places because of the sense of adventure as well as the red color and great lighting. So sorry for my absence this month-- I am nearly done with my thesis and I promise I will be all yours very soon!

Makeshift Bandeau

I love the look of a bandeau, or any cropped shirt really, with high-waisted bottoms.  I think it's something I'll be doing a lot more as the weather gets warmer here in new york, probably with outfits a little more casual than the one I'm wearing here in this post.  In reference to my title, my top is simply a scarf that I borrowed from Sarah and folded into a bandeau.  I wore this to brunch with Sarah and it was definitely uplifting to dress up on a gloomy day!

Fire escapes and Florals

Now that I live in New York City, I have a newfound appreciation for thrift stores... and fire escapes!  I got this dress while thrift shopping with Sarah a few weeks ago when she was visiting.  For those of you that live here in the city or ever plan on visiting, I highly recommend taking a look at some of the thrift stores in the East village area (Buffalo Exchange, Cure Thrift Shop, and No Relation Vintage).  Since the dress is so floral and feminine, I decided to pair it with my trusty faux leather jacket and my lace-up boots.  These photos were taken on my apartment's fire escape, a fun place for blog photos as long as I avoid looking down (I'm terribly afraid of heights)!

It was a night of wonderful excess

For graduation, my uncle Jason met me in New York City and he and a friend of his took me out to dinner at Daniel Boulud's incredible four star restaurant "Daniel." We chose the six course tasting menu and were off on a true culinary adventure. I had duck terrine with sicilian pistachio, peekytoe crab salad with cumin-carrot coulis, thai snapper ceviche with cucumber vinaigrette, grilled alaskan king salmon with chanterelle, duo of beef, and finally warm guanaja chocolate coulant with liquid caramel, fluer de sel, and milk sorbet. My uncle surprised me with a special grapefruit dessert bearing "Congratulations Sarah" in a beautiful chocolate script! Dessert was accompanied by coffee, fresh madeleines and an assortment of chocolates.

My uncle and his friend both looked sharp in suits and ties. I wore my new long chiffon skirt, and borrowed M's top and bag. It was so much fun dressing up for a formal occasion!

Time for a change

I get my hair cut probably once or twice a year (not recommended, I know).  So when I do, I tend to want to go for "something different", which means I've had my fair share of regrets, from poor dye jobs to short cuts that do nothing to control the frizz in my hair (my mother's personal favorite).  This time I was determined to get bangs and Sarah can attest to it- I spent months contemplating this decision, as I often do.  I have to say I'm very happy with the result this time!  But I'll let you be the judge of that.

PS1?!? Noo... just the Target messenger look a like

I have to admit, I don't have the same weakness for bags as I do for, say, shoes (lace up boots!) and if you take a quick look at my closet, it definitely shows.  I probably have at most two bags that I actually like!  But I've been in the market for a basic, practical messenger bag that will fit my laptop and everything else I need to carry around for a while now.  While the top two messenger bags on my wish list would be the Proenza PS1 or the Mulberry Alexa, at this stage in my life there's just no way I can afford either one of those.  So today when I stopped by Target on my way home I finally purchased the bag I'd been eying before it sells out completely (lately I tend to contemplate an item for months until it either sells out or goes out of season.. and I end up so disappointed)!  This Target messenger by Mossimo is very similar to the PS1 and I have to say, I highly, highly recommend it for those of you that can't afford the real thing.  I got it in the white (pictured below) and the faux leather feels soft and supple and actually looks authentic... so if you're looking for a decently priced messenger bag, go out and buy this one before it sells out!

Today's inspiration: Shades of white

Absolutely mesmerized by the spring issue of H&M magazine, Shades of white.  So beautiful... I love  the simplicity of the white lace and white denim.  I will definitely be looking for some of these pieces at H&M.
